The English Lounge is a Self-Access Learning Center (SALC) at Hirosaki University. This is a learning environment designed to promote HIRODAI students’ lifelong English language skills. The SALC provides a space that resembles a study abroad experience where students interact with other Japanese and international students to deepen their understanding of different cultures and improve their English fluency. The SALC also has resources for autonomous learning such as graded-readers, books, games, DVDs, and access to online learning opportunities. In addition, students can use numerous computers available in the center (read journal articles about Self-Access Learning in Japan).
